Universal Free School Meals - Reception, Year 1 and Year 2
At St Leonard’s Primary School, all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to receive Universal Free School Meals (UFSM).
These meals are funded by the government, meaning there is no cost to families. While children are not required to take up this offer, we strongly encourage all pupils to enjoy a school meal each day.
We believe that sharing lunchtime with friends plays an important role in children’s health, wellbeing and social development, as well as supporting their learning in the classroom.
School meals today are nutritious, varied and appealing, offering a wide range of options to suit different tastes.
Pupil Premium & Free School Meals
In addition to UFSM, families on lower incomes or in receipt of certain benefits may be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) and Pupil Premium funding.
If your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 and you believe you may qualify, we strongly encourage you to apply, even though meals are already free. This ensures that your child’s entitlement continues into Year 3 and beyond.
Pupil Premium funding provides additional financial support to the school, helping us to enhance educational provision, subsidise trips and activities, and ensure all pupils can access the same opportunities.
If your child is in Years 3, 4, 5 or 6 and you think you may be eligible but have not yet applied, we encourage you to do so. The application process is quick, confidential and straightforward, and our office staff are always happy to help.
Even if you choose not to take up free meals, registering is extremely important, as the additional funding directly benefits the school and all its pupils.
